Beadwork has long been a part of Singapore’s Chinese and Peranakan heritage — especially in embroidery, jewellery, and wedding accessories. This workshop draws inspiration from these roots, translating the meticulous detailing and symbolism of traditional beadwork into a contemporary gemstone earring design, modernising traditional beadwork in today's generation.
Participants will learn to incorporate Oriental design elements such as plum blossoms, longevity knots, and auspicious colors — all traditionally seen in Chinese heritage jewellery — into modern gemstone earrings. This blending of traditional motifs with modern aesthetics supports the preservation of cultural symbolism in a format that appeals to today’s generation.
Historically in Singapore, jewellery was not just ornamental — it was deeply symbolic, often worn to reflect one’s cultural identity, family values, or marital status. By allowing participants to create their own interpretations of these traditional forms, the workshop keeps the meaning of heritage jewellery alive, while turning it into an accessible, expressive craft.
